Lawn Mower Racing set to draw crowds at Fieldays®
Red Bull Cut It, an exciting form of lawn mower racing, is revving up to make its adrenaline-fueled debut at Fieldays® 2025, bringing high-speed thrills to the Southern Hemisphere’s largest agricultural event.
Red Bull Cut It is an exciting twist on the traditional lawn mower racing format that was originally dreamed up in 1973 by a few mates in a pub.
“Fieldays has always been the home of extreme and unique agricultural competitions and demonstrations, and 2025 will be no exception,” says Karina Missen, Event Producer for the New Zealand National Fieldays Society. “We’re thrilled to team up with Red Bull to bring their Cut It competition to New Zealand for the first time—it’s fast, fun, and is set to be a fantastic spectacle for all ages.”
Barry Dawe, from the New Zealand Lawnmower Racing Association said: "Red Bull Cut It is an exciting opportunity to bring the iconic Red Bull brand into the already thrilling world of grassroots motorsport - elevating the competition and delivering an unforgettable experience for drivers and fans alike.”
Lawn mower racing in New Zealand has been gaining popularity, attracting enthusiasts of all ages and emphasising fun and accessibility.
The machines used for racing are modified ride-on mowers with the cutting blades removed and they are considered one of the most accessible forms of motorsport.
“Bringing the event to New Zealand Fieldays it a great opportunity to get young motorsport and farming audiences to see the next big thing in quirky motorsport. We encourage the young farmers to add some motorsport to their lives,” says Dawe.
The Red Bull Cut It machines will be on display from Wednesday 11 to Friday 13 June with the contestants on site for Super Saturday taking to the track for Red Bull Cut It. The Red Bull Cut It activation zone will be located next to the Heavy Equipment precinct on Q road at the South Entry.
Visitors will have the chance to meet competitors, learn about the machines, and soak up the fun atmosphere created by the Red Bull team alongside the New Zealand Lawn Mower Racing Association.
The competition itself will take place on Saturday, featuring these separate events:
• Time trial – This will determine where competitors will place on the grid
• Joker lap races – Each rider is allowed to use a shortcut once in the race
• Le Mans style race
• Teams race with pit stops
We will be running several different classes during the day. Participants are expected to compete and there will be individual winners for each class and a winner based on spectator votes throughout the day.
Fieldays 2025 will take place from 11 – 14 June at Mystery Creek Events Centre, Hamilton. Visitors keen to avoid the queues are encouraged to purchase their tickets online.
