Fieldays® Fencing Competition

How it works

The Fieldays Fencing Competition showcases four prestigious events, including two national championships. The WIREMARK ®Golden Pliers® Singles Championship, the Fieldays Silver Spades Doubles Championship, the Bill Schuler competition for up and coming competitors and the Fieldays Silver Spades Cadet Event. Competitors are evaluated by a panel of up to 15 New Zealand Fencing Competition (NZFC) volunteer judges, with scores awarded across three core pillars:

Speed:

Competitors are timed, and once the first competitor is finished and calls “time” point penalties start being applied to each competitor until they finish. Point penalties are allocated as Bill Schuler & Golden Pliers by WIREMARK finals – ½ point per minute; Fieldays Silver Spades 1 point per minute. Fieldays Silver Staples ½ point per minute .

The quickest Fencer in the WIREMARK Golden Pliers earns the "First off the line" accolade and the Nick Liefting Trophy.

But speed can lead to compromising of quality.

Appearance and Precision:

Judges use tape measures, levels and other judging tools to inspect post heights, wire spacing, and knot tidiness, end assembly construction and a number of other aspects depending on the fence type and specifications. Posts must sit at exactly 90-degree angles to the wire lines, and wire knots must be tied uniformly
