2017 Rural Bachelor of the Year Winner - Matthew McAtamney of Fairlie
2017 People's Choice Award Winner - Gordy Mill of Queensland
Fieldays Rural Bachelor is the opportunity of a lifetime for a group of young rural bachelors to embark on an all-expenses-paid trip to Fieldays, with the chance to find fame, fortune and love.
This year the competition kicked off with the Farmlands Road Trip. The Bachelors made their way across Auckland, Waikato and the Bay of Plenty, visiting Farmlands stores to take part in exciting activities and challenges. Arriving at Fieldays, the Bachelors had their skills, attitude and all-round charisma tested in a number of competitive challenges and entertainment, from speed fencing to health and safety, log splitting to construction. The challenges are largely agricultural-based but we threw in a few fun twists to test the character of these rural men.
From Wednesday to Friday there were challenges every day, with winner Matthew McAtamney of Fairlie, announced at the official prizegiving on Saturday. The Bachelor's put everything on the line with the hopes of walking away with one of the two titles – Rural Bachelor of the Year 2017 and People’s Choice Award 2017 – and a prize pool of $20,000.
All Bachelor finalists were kitted out by Swanndri and Skellerup and got a great opportunity to visit Fieldays exhibitors and attend demonstrations.
