The finalists were judged on a range of aspects from technical skills, innovation, effort to enthusiasm and crowd involvement. They participated in heats throughout Fieldays and were judged on their interaction with Fieldays staff and volunteers, their team spirit, helpfulness, conduct and attitude in relation to Fieldays values.
Simon won the following prize package
- $16,000 Suzuki Quad bike
- $2,000 Swanndri Prize Package
- $2,000 Gun City Prize Package
- $2,000 Stihl Prize Package
- $1,000 Skellerup Prize.
The finalist heats were kept under wraps until Fieldays but were largely agricultural based with a few fun heats thrown in to challenge the rural lifestyle the boys are used to.
The competition provided some serious challenges but also a huge amount of fun and laughter. Significant media attention was received during Fieldays and the Rural Bachelors appeared on radio and television.
