Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enter?
  1. Create your invention 
  2. Have your supporting documents on hand 
  3. Go to www.fieldays.co.nz/InnovationCentre2012 
  4. Select which category your invention fits in, either Inventions or Equipment
  5. Click to the appropriate online form link
  6. Fill out the online form, don’t forget to upload your supporting document and image of your invention
  7. The Innovation Committee will then select the successful inventions that will be featured in the Innovation Centre 
  8. You will then be notified with the outcome of your entry

What documents do I need to support my entry?
A clear photo and a two-page document demonstrating and explaining the function and purpose of your invention. This applies to both categories.

Does it cost anything to enter?
There is only a entry fee for Equipment Category entrants of $600 which enables you to create revenue from your innovation at Fieldays. There is no entry fee for the Invention category.

Is there any age limit to enter?
A No, there is no age limit

Can I enter as a team?
Yes, you may enter as a team.

How do I display my entry?
 All entrants get a stand in the Innovation Centre which is currently located on M road. If you are a business and you already have a site at Fieldays, you do not need to display your invention in the Innovation Centre.

Do I need to man my stand at Fieldays?
Yes, someone must man you stand at all times during Fieldays due to the sheer volume of visitors that come through the Innovation Centre.

When can I set up my stand?
You can set up your stand on the 11th and 12th of June 2012 8am to 5pm.

Do I need to have a prototype of my innovation at Fieldays?
This certainly helps with the judging process, however, we understand that sometimes inventions may not be practical to display in the Innovation Centre.

Can I sell my product?
Yes, you can sell your product if you are entered in the Equipment category only.

When does judging take place?
Judging takes place on Wednesday 13th June 2012 during Fieldays. Judges decision is final.

When will the awards be announced?
Thursday 14th June, 2012 at the Innovation Industry Breakfast, held in the Presidents Lounge at Fieldays. During the breakfast, guests will announce the winners of the competition.

Do all entries feature in the Innovation Centre?
Provided the entry fits the terms and conditions of the competition and category, most invention are featured in the Innovation Centre.

What if my invention does not fit in the category?
The Innovations Committee reserve the right to swap categories if they feel an invention is not suitable. The entrant will be notified if this occurs.

Is my invention/idea protected from other people copying my idea?
Yes, the event is gazetted, meaning all inventions in the competition are temporarily protected for six months surrounding Fieldays, allowing time for the inventor to add sufficient cover to the invention.

What if I want my invention to stay confidential until Fieldays?
All entries are strictly confidential until the first day of Fieldays.

How do I get into Fieldays?
You will be given two 4-Day passes to Fieldays. Passes give you access to Fieldays from 6am although we advise you to be onsite by 7.30am in order to be ready for public arriving at 8am. Please use Gate 2 for access prior to 8am. Your passes will be distributed prior to the event.

Am I allowed to talk to media?
Yes, we encourage you to talk to media, the more exposure for your innovation the better.
