The Department of Labour works with the labour market to strengthen the economy and increase New Zealand’s standard of living. It supports workplaces to develop safe, fair and productive practices and to develop skilled, innovative, high performing workforces.
The Department’s responsibilities are employment relations, workplace safety and health, immigration, accident compensation, international labour issues, labour market analysis and research. One focus area for the Department is reducing the costs of injury associated with quad bikes and other farm vehicles.
