Stihl Festival of Logging Skills
|
There's nothing unusual about creating artwork from wood; but there is something very creative about turning wood into art using a chainsaw! Get along to the STIHL events arena at sites J14-16 behind the STIHL marquee to watch the best chainsaw operators compete at this years' Fieldays.
Fieldays hosts one of the best competitions in New Zealand to see who can be both the most creative, and skilful chainsaw operator. Enjoy the excitement of chainsaw speed and accuracy events, and the skills of the chainsaw carver. The event is a display of some of the best freestyle carving, by some of New Zealand's best ‘chainsaw artists’.
On Thursday and Friday New Zealand's best carvers compete for a share of the $3,000 prize pool in the Waikato Challenge Carving Event. The public then bids for their favourite piece of art in the auction held on Friday at 3.30pm, with all proceeds going to St Johns.
On Saturday the Castrol Logging Skills Competition takes place, with teams from around New Zealand competing for $3,000 in prizes. The six-man teams will compete in a variety of chainsaw skill events to decide the winning team. The Ladies Race will also be held on Saturday, as well as the impressive STIHL Hot Saw Race, where modified chainsaws send the wood chips flying. All in all the Stihl Festival of Logging Skills can be described as creative, fast and noisy fun!
