CRITERIA:
The aim of the Designer Traditional category is to allow for more conventional and traditional garment design elements, while embracing the competition’s theme of sourcing materials from agricultural connections.
If your Ag Art Wear design could be made with customary clothing materials, would you wear it? If yes, then your garment should be entered in this category of the competition. It should still have artistic features and innovative design approaches. Skirts, bodices, dresses, pants, tops, shorts, jackets, capes, hats and footwear; all made from agricultural materials and/or equipment should be entered into the Designer Traditional category.
Designers are encouraged to have an ‘Avant Garde’ feel to their creations; however this category is the domain of those who choose to stay within traditional clothing design approaches.
MATERIALS:
Use agricultural products, by-products or materials found and/or used on the farm or from an animal or plant material. It also needs to be durable enough to last through pre-judging and at least 20 catwalk shows during the competition presentation.
Aim to create your unique design from materials that are not commonly used or found. Limit usage of weed matting, frost cloth, milk filter sleeves and feed bags to linings where possible. Naturally occurring items can also be utilised. Do not use weeds (i.e. pampas), noxious or pest plant species to avoid the risk of transporting seeds.
Use of traditional clothing materials including footwear and accessories will mark the garment down (except hidden fasteners). Your design must not include elements of farm clothing.
